What are some good songs/artists?

I'm trying to listen to new songs and artists that I've never given a chance before, so I thought I'd ask everyone to suggest some songs for me to download. Once I get a new computer I'll probably start burning some CDs with my favorite songs. Right now I'm focusing on Pearl Jam and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and various video game songs, but I need help since I'm not very knowledgable when it comes to various artists and what songs are good. So any suggestions are helpful. Just make sure to leave out anything that's rap, country, metal, or techno, since I don't have much love for those genres.

Aww,

Country..you're def. missing out friend!

If you want an "up and coming" christian band (cause that's all I listen to so I can't help you out)
..I really enjoy Big Dismal..you may like them...I dunno..considering I don't know you..except I think I saw you once at J-ro's.....not sure tho! We'll have to meet officially some day!

Were you the person doing his hair that one night when I stopped in? Otherwise I don't remember meeting anyone there.

Based on some of the stuff you've told me you listen to, Doug, I'd suggest a few bands:

Jimmy Eat World
The Juliana Theory
Sparta

I have a hard time believing you wouldn't like Jimmy Eat World, and the other two may/may not be to your tastes. None of them are Christian, but they all have deeper lyrics than the average band, without being rife with the swears. And more importantly, all three bands do some talent-laden and creative musical stuff, without getting weird.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. I'll try to download some of that stuff over the weekend, since I generally have nothing to do on weekends. I'm not really surprised that Hooper recommended Jimmy Eat World, since he had a JEW logo as his msn avatar for like a month. I've only heard one or two of their songs (one on the radio, another on Burnout 3) and thought they were "alright". I'll give them a better chance though. And I already love the Killers and have all their singles on my computer. Awesome band! I love how they have a bit of 80s sound mixed with some 90s. Anyways, I'm gonna finally get to work on that movie list and I'll try to post it sometime this weekend. Feel free to keep the music suggestions coming people!
